Oklahoma Clinic 10/10/09

The Introduction and Demonstration Clinic (day 1), 10am to 4:00pm. This day is really intended as a preparation for the abrasive clinic (day 2).  After personal introductions and a brief "history" from each person attendees receive a two hour lecture  and discussion on barefoot theory and hoof mechanics followed by a half hour of discussion with a question/answer period. We then break for approximately a one hour lunch to allow the information to sink in.  I will be available during lunch to answer further questions.

After the break, there will be a brief period for any additional questions that came up over lunch followed by about an hour demonstration of the abrasive trim using a live horse. This trimming portion will be rich in explanation as to what is where and why I trim the hoof the way I do.

Basic technique using the grinder and how it is superior to the conventional method is explained.  I will also demonstrate the "natural" way of horse handling specific to trimming.  The final half hour will be a wrap up.  Extensive printed information will be provided to take home.

Price for all day: $60*

Minimum attendance for day 1: 8 people
  Maximum attendance: 16 people

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Abrasive Trim Clinic (day 2) is all day, 9am to 5:30pm (one hour lunch) and will start with a short lecture on natural trimming guidelines as I see them and a brief introduction to the abrasive trim concept.   Then each participant will in turn trim their own horse (recommended), or a borrowed one, under my close supervision.  I will trim the first foot while explaining the particulars for that individual foot.  The next two feet will be a joint effort, I will trim one half and the participant the other, this offers an easy visual guideline for the person new to trimming.  The last foot will be done by the participant alone but I will still be there to make suggestions and to assure it is going correctly.  So in effect each participant will be receiving a private lesson.

Price for Participants (trimming) is $200 for day 2 or both days $250 for local clinics.  An additional travel surcharge of approximately 5% for both participants and auditors will be added for away clinics to help cover plane fare etc.

Price for auditing day 2 is $60 ($110 for auditing both days), The New Softouch Natural Hoof Care DVD will be available to attendees at the clinic for the discount price of $40.

A "tool package," consisting of a light weight grinder with paddle switch adaptor, 2 flap disks, a leather arm guard, 30 degree hairline guide, a 6" ruler/straightedge and a special tail tie bungee will be available to purchase at a cost of $75 for participants or $85 for auditors.

*Participants are required to bring leather gloves and protective goggles*

*
The Abrasive Trim Clinic DVD will be offered instead to a participant that has already purchased the Softouch Natural Hoof Care DVD prior to the clinic.

**Participants must bring leather gloves and protective goggles for their eyes.  Dust masks are optional, but recommended.

Minimum attendance for day 2: 4 participants and 6 auditors
Maximum attendance: 6 participants and 12 auditors

Feed Back from previous clinics:

Hi Phil - just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the clinic Saturday.  You are a good teacher and I was much relieved to learn that I can do this and take good care of JR myself.  I got the chance to view the DVD last night and it will be a huge help when I actually get ready to retrim JR in a month.  I feel it will be a good refresher of the things to remember to do and look for, but actually getting to use the grinder with your supervision gave me the confidence to know I can do it when the time comes.

Great clinic!  I  absolutely LOVE the grinder.  I am able to "tweak" the feet of one or two every morning before I go to work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phil,

I just wanted to send you a note to again thank you for the trimming lesson last Sunday.  I think it is a great technique and I can't wait to do it again!  I have been telling everyone about what I learned, when I tell them how much fun it is.....well, they think I'm a little crazy!!! Oh, well.....

Again, thank you so much for showing me this method. I know I was paranoid about it but now, I am one of the biggest believers out there.  For your real skeptics, you can have them call me...  Tonight, I was watching the Jaime Jackson video.  I used to think it was brain surgery :) So archaic to watch with the rasp and nippers.  You are blowing all these people away with this method.  I also was able to sharpen my tools on my own now without the dremel tool.  Thank you for showing me that.

I have trimmed them twice without you there now (Will need you to check in a couple of months, please).  Tommy can walk on the little pebbles for the most part, without the boots now.

I cannot tell you how glad I am I met you and that you taught me how to use the sander/grinder.   It was life changing.  You will become famous for this you know.  I need a bit more instruction on the 30 degree angle tool but I've just been following what was there when you came out.  I feel more and more confident every time I do their feet.

Carol

Dear Phil, I so enjoyed meeting you and learning your innovative trim method.  I wasn't able to trim anybody on Sunday, as we were busy in town all day, but I feel absolutely able to do it myself now!  I want to compliment you on your easy and practical teaching style.  I felt like I got a one on one lesson and that you really took the time to understand and answer my questions.  I just want to thank you again for a great lesson and the new direction to take my equine friends.

Regarding some of the wares that you offer for sale, I'd like to order a hoof jack.  Not sure how to go about doing that, so let me know.  I want to get busy trimming my gang, so the sooner the better.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Kathy Goss.

(Posted to the Abrasive Trim list group)

"A huge thanks to Phil Morarre for Saturday's Clinic. It was
a wonderful day in a beautiful place with the nicest people you'll
ever find and an exciting group of equines.
As for Phil, you will not meet a kinder, more-patient, helpful
person. He took on each equine from "Xena" (the wonderful Percheron
mare) with dinner-plate sized hooves, to lovely Arabs and QH, and the
vivacious "Lucy" the Arab/mule, to Jet (foundered pony with the
prettiest eyes). With Phil's help, each owner was able to do a nice
trim on their equine in a relatively short time.
I'll try to write more later, but check out some of the photos!"

Thanks so much,
Kathy
